I’ve been making a dent in my project pile lately and it’s such a good feeling. This little mermaid is from the book “Wee Wonderfuls” by Hillary Lang. I made one other doll from this book – the Tag-a-Long doll. They were so much fun to make (I ended up making 3) I knew I wanted to make the mermaid too.
The fabric I used for the mermaid’s body is the color inspiration for this mermaid. I had a fat quarter of this fabric which was perfect for the shape of the body and tail. In order to get the fabric to sit right on the body/tail, I had to enlarge the pattern. The original finished mermaid was 7″ long and after enlarging, mine is 10″.
The hair is a dark purple corduroy. Stitching lines give the hair nice added details. (They are a little hard to see in the photos).
This mermaid was very easy to make and it came together in an afternoon (almost). There is some hand stitching (besides the embroidered face) and it was really fun to make.
